Sir Agravain de Galis, Knight of the Rose
As a mere young lad, Agravain
seemed destined to follow his fathers footsteps and be a solamnic
knight. While other boys were at school, or playing around, he
was deeply entrenched in learning fighting skills, studying the
code and measure, and jousting. At an early age, he quickly
realized that if he continued his training at home, he would
receive unfair advantages. His father, Lamoracke, was the High
Justice of Solamnia, certainly the eldest and only son of such a
great warrior would have an easy time entering the knighthood,
Agravain wanted to earn it on his own.
Therefore at an early age, he decided to leave
his comfortable homeland of Galis, and make a name for himself in
the outside world. Always keeping his identity secret, Agravain
made associations with many fighting organizations in the lands
of Krynn, some of dubious repute. While traveling to Xak Tsaroth
one day, he met up and befriended some members of Clan Shriner.
Having heard tales of their evil throughout the lands, he was
skeptical of traveling with them, but he figured this would be an
invaluable experience to learn how they fight and conduct
themselves in battle. So this process went on for many years, he
grouped with all the powerful clans of Ansalon in anonymity
quickly absorbing their skills and methods of battle. Years later
he returned to his homelands to once again see his dear father.
Things were not well with Lamoracke. By this
time, he had retired from High Justice and gave his seat to one
of his former squires Justinian who was now a Knight of the Rose.
The years had not been kind to his father. Though highly
respected and liked by his peers and the citizens of Krynn, he
was unhappy and alone. Unlike most of the elder knights, he never
married, his only was the product of a brief love affair which
ended sadly with the young maidens death. Thus he never had other
children. Seeing his son return lifted his spirits but 'Lam' was
growing tired of the world and his place in it. He took Agravain
to his side one day, told him how proud he was of his future
knight to be son, and that he should never take life for granted
like he did, never let his position in the knighthood stop you
from finding happiness and love.
They reminisced and sparred for a few days,
then Lam rode off and was never seen again. Agravain, heart-broken
of his fathers disappearance applied for knighthood, and passed
the 4 quests of knighthood faster than any knight in history. His
Crown quest was to solve the mystery of the Wings of Sorrow, his
Sword quest was to lead an army of comrades into Graknar and
vanquish Grap, and his Rose quest was to single-handedly retrieve
a white key from the forests of Silvanesti, a task which was
certainly not easy.
He was later asked to become the Grand Master
of Solamnia, but Agravain remembered what the responsibilities of
leadership had done to his father, and he wished to not do so
himself. He made the choice to never take too much time for his
outside enjoyments, and yet he has many duties in the knighthood,
he daily vows to do less with those, and find his true pursuit,
love.
