Sir Rolando Skytalec, Knight of the Crown
Rolando was born in Kalaman to a family of mercenaries. His father, Sir Gerent, was a human and his mother was the elven beauty and healer, Lady Ninelli. However his human blood so prevailed in Rolando, that nothing betrayed his elven relationship except maybe a bit lower constitution and a peculiar gracefulness. There was another thing that Rolando inherited from his mother - a gift of healing magic. It was not as strong as his mother's, but it was still a subject of mockery from his father's side, who were used to relying only on muscular strength, battle skills and cold steel. The thing Rolando's parents valued most was freedom, so they did not join any battle clans, but offered their skills and magic ability to anyone in need.
They fought many battles, always taking the side of Good, as they saw danger to their independence in the attempts of the dark forces of Takhisis to take control over all of Krynn. That's why Gerent soon became very close to the Knights of Solamnia and was always glad to serve them, no matter how hard the task -- retrieving lost artifacts from the evil pigmy or slaying the evil torturer Riddler in the Fyzian catacombs. So when rumors grew that Dark Forces were preparing a massive attack, Sir Gerent without any hesitation joined a detachment of Solamnic Knights and departed to defend the High Clerist Tower near Palanthas. Lady Ninelli could not let her husband go alone on such a dangerous journey, but they could not risk the life of young Rolando, who was only 12 at that time. So they sent Rolando off on a Solamnic vessel, which departed to North Ergoth where he supposed to be safe.
That was the last time Rolando saw his parents. Later he heard that they were seen in Palanthas among the knights fighting the mighty dragon Cyan. The battle between dark and light forces, with involvement of the most powerful magic, caused a fiery cataclysm to spread across Ansalon. Losses on both sides were so great that there was no reason to continue battle and peace was achieved.
The cataclysm caught up the vessel carrying Rolando as it neared the Ergothian shores, he and most of the ships crew managed to survive. The Knights reached Gulfport and were headquartered by the Emperor in Crimson Castle, helping to fix the damage brought by Cataclysm. Rolando spent 6 years in the Crimson castle as a Solamnic squire, studying military sciences, training skills and spirit, comprehending the ways of the Oath and Measure. When Rolando turned 18 years old, the commander of the castle considered his initial training finished and sent him to the High Clerist Tower with orders to report to High Clerist Lord Justinian Silverguard, so the Lord could decide of his further training. Rolando had planned to go via a teleportation room to Solace from where he could easily reach the Tower... But something went wrong and Rolando found himself in the middle of the market square in Port Balifor.
He look around, sighed and started his journey to Palanthas. His travel turned out to be neither short nor safe. Rolando encountered many dangers, fought many monsters and other forces of evil, more than once receiving a wound that should have been deadly, but his spirit never shuttered and he always kept his way in accordance with the Oath and Measure. During his voyage he also met some true friends who to joined him and fought alongside. Finally he reached the High Clerist Tower and reported to Lord Justinian Silverguard. Lord Justinian questioned Rolando, tested his skills and was quite satisfied by the young man's performance. He remembered Sir Gerent and his help to the Order, so he was glad that Rolando wanted to fulfil his fathers dream and became a Knight of Solamnia. Very soon after young Rolando found himself standing before the Lord High Justice, Lord High Clerist, other knights and his friends, pledging himself to Good, the Order and Paladine. It was the best day in his life, the day when he was knighted and got the title Sir Rolando Skytalec, Knight of the Crown.
Since then he has travelled a lot, had many adventures with his friends, many of whom also became knights, suffered losses, celebrated victories, but he always kept his Solemn Vow and lived in accordance with the Oath and Measure.
